Deniz is my name. During the day, my workspace could be anywhere. I select one of the study rooms, dining tables, balconies, or sofas and begin working until I lose track of time. I mostly draw at night. During the day, however, I always have my sketchbook with me. You never know when you'll feel inspired to draw something. When I'm at home, I like to draw with a movie or an old TV show playing in the background.

I usually start drawing to practice, but soon a story pops up in my mind. That's why I work in compositions on basic drawing topics that I want to practice, such as anatomy, light-shadow, or perspective. Colors fascinate me. I experiment with colors until I find an ambiance that suits my mind. Sometimes, when I can't find the colors that appeal to me, I take a break from drawing and wait for some time to pass, and then I wake up in the middle of the night and start trying the colors that come to my mind. This sometimes happens with facial expressions, character poses, or backgrounds too. My drawings jolt me out of my slumber J Telling a story with lines and colors is a magical job.

I spend most of my time drawing. Apart from that, I like to take long walks on the seaside, read and cook. Making music is one of my desires, but I haven't gone beyond a kitchen diva yet.

I spend most of my time drawing. Apart from that, I like to take long walks on the seaside, read and cook. Making music is one of my desires, but I haven't gone beyond a kitchen diva yet. Recently, I started knitting, I can't say I'm good, but I'm having a lot of fun. There are also my PhD studies of course. Before the pandemic, going to the theater, concert, or visiting the library were my favorite things, but for now, my time is mostly spent in the university-home-coast triangle. In time, I will be more social again.

I believe in doing it by working rather than waiting for inspiration in the creative process. Because as you do a job, the quality of the result gets better. But sometimes there is a moment when inspiration comes and hunts you. For me, nature usually does the job. Migratory birds, dolphins in the Bosphorus, trees, weather…

As an atmospheric scientist, I love rainy weather. Sometimes the architecture of an old building and sometimes our childhood photos can be a source of inspiration. When I am too tired to see the beauty around me, books, movies, and music are there for me. So is examining the works of the illustrators I follow with admiration!

I draw my illustrations using Procreate. Just as mixing colors from a watercolor palette makes the result more satisfying, using brushes in Procreate by changing their default settings gives better results. Therefore, I am looking for the answer to the question of how can I use it in different ways, no matter what material I have. While using Procreate, I mostly try to design my own brushes so I can get more original lines. I like to use contrasting colors together. Yellow and purple are my favorite duo. I prefer to use textured or even messy lines that are close to the traditional style.
